BRAIN POWER
How’s your flux capacitor?
One of the 1980s' greatest contributions to popular culture is the Back to the Future movie franchise. A central element of the storyline was a DeLorean modified to be a time machine, powered by a mythical "flux capacitor." Without it, the DeLorean was just an odd-looking, poor-performing automotive misfit.
This is where you come in: You have a flux capacitor designed into the very fabric of your body. Without this "machine's" proper functioning, you too might become an odd-looking, poorly-performing misfit.
The "machine" I'm referring to is the hormone testosterone, the male human body's flux capacitor.
Hormones are biological machines built from amino acids and lipids that carry out specific tasks within your body. Testosterone is present in most animal species, including fish, birds, and mammals.
Just as adrenaline regulates survival responses and oxytocin regulates bonding, testosterone primarily regulates the reproductive process. But that's not all it does.
The Testosterone Difference
Here's where the story becomes really interesting for MoreTheMan readers. While testosterone is present in both sexes, men have, on average, 1,400 percent more testosterone than women.
🤯 1,400 percent.
Some hormones are more prevalent in women, but none approaches this degree of difference.
Why this dramatic disparity? We don't know for certain, but we can get close by understanding testosterone's effects. Testosterone:
Energizes a passion for life
Fuels the spirit of competition
Inclines towards risk-taking that leads to innovation
Orients the mind to understand and manipulate material reality (spatial reasoning*)
Testosterone exerts its influence in the womb and throughout life. The degree of its effects correlates with its presence in your body.
Testosterone: The Driving Force of Civilization
Life must fight to survive in an otherwise cold, chaotic, and inhospitable universe. Testosterone is that voice rallying us to "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!" in the face of overwhelming odds.
But not just for the sake of violence. Our fight is for the survival of families, our civilization and our species. Testosterone's effects make us not just physically strong and formidable but, more importantly, mentally strong and capable of bending the world to our will.
🚀 Testosterone propels civilization by inspiring us to discover new and better ways to protect and provide for loved ones. Its effects are seen throughout history in the men who took risks and explored to find a better way for the rest of us.
This precisely arranged collection of 19 carbon atoms, 28 hydrogen atoms, and two oxygen atoms supplies the energy needed to "be fruitful and multiply." It's the reason you're reading these words on a digital screen instead of drifting helplessly in some primordial soup.
Join us in Issue #3 as we explore how testosterone influences your body and mind over your lifetime. We'll also examine alarming trends indicating our "flux capacitors" may have been compromised by external forces.
*Spatial reasoning is the ability to visualize and manipulate objects and spatial relationships in one's mind, crucial for tasks from navigation to solving complex engineering problems.

BIOHACK: Breathing that boosts your testosterone
What would you say if I told you there was something you can do (that you are already doing … but not properly) that will immediately lift your testosterone levels?
Before you say, “Get outta here!” consider this: Testosterone and the stress-hormone cortisol are both made from cholesterol. That means when the level of one rises in your body, the other falls.
The relationship between testosterone and cortisol explains why stress decreases testosterone levels. You may then ask, “Then why do we exercise since exercise causes stress?” Good question we will answer in a future issue but, for now, exercise helps your body and mind learn to cope with stress.
An abundance of research and practice shows that breathing reduces stress. The problem is that most of the breathing we do daily is shallow breathing and not deep breathing. Deep breathing is a simple technique that can help reduce stress and improve relaxation.
Here's the step-by-step process
Find a comfortable position: Sit or lie down in a relaxed posture.
Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen: This helps you feel the movement of your diaphragm.
Inhale slowly through your nose: Allow your abdomen to rise while your chest remains still.
Exhale slowly through your mouth: Let your abdomen fall as you exhale fully.
Repeat: Continue this cycle for 5-10 minutes, focusing on smooth and deep breaths.
Try this out at least once in the next 24 hours and see how much different you feel as your cortisol dissipates and your testosterone surges.
